2017 “Make it for Me” Announcement!

Are you excited and ready to kick off January 2017 with the “Make it for Me” event?  January 2016 was the first and now annual Make it for Me event! It was a huge success which makes me really happy to bring it back to you (the crocheters) again this year!  I’ve recruited some really awesome designers to pick out some of their favorite FREE designs that would be a perfect “Make it for Me” project.  You may even see some “never seen” projects too!

We (crocheters) made it through another holiday season!  Some of you are probably still working on getting the finishing touches on a few aren’t ya?

Give yourself a big ole’ pat on the back because I know so many of you worked really hard on those Christmas presents!  I hope everyone appreciated your time, effort and especially love that went into every stitch, but now I think “It’s Time for You”!

If you see the title, you’ll notice it says, “Make it for Me”.  What exactly does that mean?  Well, we all know that most of us rarely make anything for ourselves, and I want that to change (at least for the month of January).

Here’s how it will work…..

I’ve partnered with some other fabulous crochet designers in the industry, and they will be sharing a free pattern they consider worthy of being a “Make it for Me” project.  One project gets featured everyday for the entire month of January!

You will also have the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes!  The sponsors loved the idea of “Make it for Me” and graciously supplied prizes as a way to show you how much they appreciate your passion for crochet.  Without YOU, none of this would be possible!  We want to say thank you and maybe give you the little push and encouragement to finally do something for YOURSELF!  I can’t wait to share all the wonderful prize giveaways with you!!

I hope during the month that you’ll find that one project that catches your eye and dedicate the time to make it for yourself!  Be sure to share this post with all your fellow crocheters!  Can you imagine how “big” this event could really get if everyone got involved?

Roses’s Crossing Beanie Tutorial

I know that some of you asked right away for a video for Roses’s Crossing Beanie.  Sometimes it takes longer for this video to load than I would like…..but here ya go!

Roses’s Crossing Beanie!

Once I finished with the Made for the Cold Beanie, my head starting swirling of all of the different types of stitches that would work perfectly for the “new technique” that I crocheted for the project.  I’m so happy to present to you Rose’s Crossing!

The hat is filled with textured not only because of the X-Stitches you see but it’s also double-layered.  The result is this amazing hat that is incredibly warm and very stylish!

The Red Heart Soft yarn gives amazing stitch definition in this project that you’ll love!  I can totally see so many color variations can’t you?  If you decide to make the hat, please share your pictures with me!  I’d love to see them!

Supplies:  

  1. Red Heart Soft, #4 Worsted Weight Yarn, 141 grams/256 yards, 100% Acrylic, Colorway:  (1 skein) Rose, (1 Skein) Charcoal
  2. I Hook/5.5 mm
  3. Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations:
blo – back loop only
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip st
st – stitch
yo – yarn over

Gauge:  13 dc sts and 8 rows = 4″

Finished Measurements:  (20″, 22″, 24″)

Notes:

  • Ch 1 is not considered the first single crochet in the pattern.
  • Ch 2 is not considered the first double crochet in the pattern.

Special Stitches: 
Special Single Crochet: (ssc) Insert hook into st, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through one loop, insert hook in front loop only in round below, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, YO, pull through last two loops.  (Click HERE for Video Tutorial)

Special X-Stitch:  (sxst) YO, insert hook into st, YO, pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops, YO (2 times), skip 2 front loops only sts in the round below, insert hook into next front loop only in round below, YO, pull up a loop, (YO, pull through 2 loops) 4 times, dc in next st on current round, YO, insert hook into next st, YO, pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops, YO (2 times), insert hook into first skipped front loop only in the round below, YO, pull up a loop, (YO, pull through 2 loops) 4 times. Round 1:  Using Charcoal, ch (60,66,72), join by sl st to first chain, ch 1 (See Pattern Notes), sc in first ch, sc in next ch and each rem ch around, join by sl st to first st. (60,66,72 sc)

Round 2:  Ch 1, sc in blo in first st, sc in blo of next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.

Round 3:  Ch 1, ssc (See Special Stitches) in first st, ssc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.

Rounds 4-5:  Join Rose, Repeat Rounds 2-3

Rounds 6-7:  Join Charcoal,  Repeat Rounds 2-3

Round 8:  Ch 1 (See Pattern Notes), sc in first st, sc in next st and each st around.

Round 9:  Ch 2 (See Pattern Notes), dc in blo in first st, dc in blo of next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.

Round 10:  Join Rose, ch 2, start sxst (See Special Stitches) in same st, sxst in next st sequence and around, join by sl st to first st. (20, 22, 24 sxsts)

Round 11:  Join Charcoal, ch 2, dc in blo in first st, dc in blo of next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st. (60,66,72 dc)

Repeat Rounds 10-11, ending last repeat on Round 10 until your project reaches the desired height.    (20″ – 6 1/2″-7″), (22″,24″ – 7″-7 1/2″)

Decrease Rounds:

Round 1:  Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, *sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (50,55,60 sts)

Round 2:  Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, *sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (40,44,48 sts)

Round 3:  Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st, sc2tog, *sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (30,33,36 sts)

Round 4:  Ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog, *sc in next st, sc2tog, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (20,22,24 sts)

NOTE:  If you are one of those that would love to make this a “messy bun hat”, you’ll want to stop here and voila….there ya go!

If you want to close up the hole, finish reading the instructions below.

Leaving a long 15″ tail, you will weave in the yarn through the loops of the remaining stitches, pull the yarn tight to close the hole.  Fasten off.  Weave in the ends.  If you need help with closing the hole, I made a video tutorial you can check out.
