“Saturday Night Share” #7
Today’s “Saturday Night Share” featured guest is Ashley Rahlf. Here’s a list of questions that Ashley was kind enough to answer. Thanks so much for taking the time to share a little about yourself with everyone!
Ashley Rahlf
2. Name of business (Facebook, website, Etsy, etc.)
3.How did you learn to crochet?
I taught myself how to crochet while I was pregnant with my 4th child. I wanted to make cuter hats than I could make on a loom for the newborns in South America and orphans in Moldova.
4.How long have you been crocheting?
I have crocheted almost exactly 2 years.
5 What is your favorite thing to crochet?
I love hats, baby sets (hats and leg warmers) and boot cuffs (stuff that works up quickly).
6.Is crocheting a hobby or business for you?
I recently opened a shop, but I mostly do it just for fun. 🙂
7.Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
In 5 years I hope to NOT be buying diapers any more. Hehe! I’d love to see myself being more adventurous in my crocheting endeavors. I’ve never made a blanket, sweater or designed something on my own.
8.Tell me something personal about yourself.
I am a mom of 5 who loves coconut ice cream, reading, big boots, summer days at the beach and I HATE blue toothpaste! I mean like if I ever meet the person that decided blue toothpaste was a good idea I will kick them in the shins. 🙂
If you would like the opportunity to have your blog, Facebook page, etc. featured, just head over to my ELK Studio Facebook page this evening to find the “Saturday Night Share” post.

“Making it thru Monday” Review #27
What a fun time this past week seeing all the great projects on “Making it thru Monday”! If you would like to submit your wonderful creation, email me at elkstudiocrochet@gmail.com or you could upload your photo to my ELK Studio Facebook page. Now, let’s get started.
Our top viewed submission comes from Francie of The Mad Capper. She used a variety of wonderful designers to create this cute little outfit. The hat was designed by Ira Rott and the pants are a modified version of her design too. The sweater is also a modified pattern by Kim Guzman. I love how Francie took some great patterns and added her own personality to them. What a fantastic compliment to the pattern designers to include your own flavor don’t you think? I’m always excited to see what people can do with my patterns!
Francie, these projects are absolutely terrific and you are truly talented. I know the person receiving this adorable outfit will be the talk of the town!!! If you get a photo of the little person wearing everything, you should share!
The next project sent to me was by Carolyn from The Purple Poncho. She used black Red Heart Love and Day Glow Red Heart super saver yarn. Don’t you just love the way the black really helps the brighter yarn to stand out? Carolyn designed the hat herself and is working on writing out the pattern. The slouchy hat is certainly one of the styles for crochet is fall/winter and I’m sure this hat will be on the top of the list!!! You can also follow Carolyn on her Facebook page too if you want to see more of her other great projects. It’s worth taking a look, I promise!
What a great week and I look forward to seeing today’s projects! Head over and give your favorite project a “like” and maybe even send your own. You might be surprised how everyone will fall in love with it!

Incredibly Simple Slouchy Hat – Free Pattern!
Are you ready for a simple slouchy hat pattern that’s quick and uses only one skein of yarn? Yea, me too especially since the holidays are coming up so quickly!
I haven’t played around with chunky yarn very much in my crochet experience but since having used it while making a free cowl pattern from Beatrice Ryan Designs, I’ve come to like the feel and how quickly a project works up.
I tried two different types of chunky yarn for this project because I always want to see which yarn can give me the results I’m trying to carry out. My first choice was “I Love This Chunky Yarn” by Hobby Lobby and the other was by Lion Brand. In the end, I chose “I Love This Chunky Yarn” because it was so super soft and for a hat, I think that’s pretty important. Plus from the pictures below, you can see a big difference in the size of the hats although I used the same size hook and number of increase rounds. I didn’t complete the Lion Brand version because I ran out of yarn and really didn’t want to start another skein when I knew I would be using the other anyway.
Now, on to the pattern. I made this hat to fit adult size – approximately 22″.
Supplies:
I Love This Chunky Yarn by Hobby Lobby
Hook – Size N
Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends
Gauge: 4 stitches and 2 rows = 2 inches
Abbreviations:
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
dc2tog – double crochet 2 together. Here is a good explanation and tutorial by New Stitch A Day if you need help.
Instructions:
ch 4, sl st into first ch to make a ring.
Round 1: ch 1, 11 dc in ring, sl st in first dc (11 st)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 dc in same space, 2 dc in next dc and around, sl st in first dc (22 st)
Round 3: ch 1 and dc in same sp, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc* repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first dc (33 st)
Round 4: ch 1 and dc in same sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first dc (44 st)
Round 5: ch 1 and dc in same sp, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first dc (55 st)
Rounds 6-8: ch 1 and dc in same sp, dc in next dc and around, join by sl st in first dc (55 st)
Round 9: ch 1 and dc in same sp, dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog, *dc in next 3 dc, dc2tog*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st to first dc (44 st)
Round 10: ch 1 and dc in same sp, dc in next dc, dc2tog, *dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st to first dc (33 st)
Rounds 11-13: ch 1 and hdc in same sp, hdc in next dc and around, join by sl st in first hdc (33 st)
Round 14: ch 1 and sc in same sp, sc in next hdc and around, join by sl st in first sc (33 st).
Finish off and weave in your ends.
I hope you enjoy this free pattern. Please remember that you are welcome to sell your finished products if you wish. I only ask that you reference or link back to ELK Studio as the designer. Please do not use my photos as your own.
If you are on Ravelry, you can “favorite’ this project to your list for easy access! I would love to see your version of this hat!!!!
I hope you have a great day! Be blessed!

“Making it thru Monday” Review #26
Another great week of fabulous projects shared on ELK Studio’s Facebook page. I always show the top two most viewed (liked) submissions, and this week we have a tie for 2nd place! Let’s get started and see who made it!
Jennifer from Stew-art Creations has made it to the top again this week with the cutest little hat! She’s like everyone else and is trying to get ready for the winter months ahead! I suggest you make plenty of these Jennifer because they are so adorable! Who wouldn’t want one??? You are incredibly talented Jennifer, and I appreciate you taking the time to submit your fantastic projects! If you head over to Jennifer’s page, you will see her submission for this week and get to see her latest pattern! I’m not going to tell…..go see for yourself!
The next submission comes from Errin (yes, I spelled her name correctly) from Madirose Designs. Errin’s talent just radiates from this fantastic design from Playin Hooky Designs. It’s an old school version and she made it for that someone special. Isn’t he a lucky fella? Thanks for sharing your work on “Making it thru Monday” and everyone should check out her page too because it’s full of great crochet projects!
Elena from Beatrice Ryan Designs has finished another headband to show off from her Amazing Grace line! I love the colors of the headband but Elena, you should have shown off all of your beautiful face! Her patterns are super easy to follow and you might want to stay tuned because I hear an Amazing Grace shawl (free pattern) is in the works! Elena’s heart and generosity with this line of patterns is incredible and if you’re like me, you can certainly appreciate how much work it takes to write a pattern!
It’s still early so jump over and share your project on my Facebook page, or you can email me at elkstudiocrochet@gmail.com
