It’s such a pleasure to share this quick, simple and easy Winter Berry Delight Scarf with you!  A few months ago I went to a local yarn store in Atlanta. It was lots of fun as always, and I discovered this cool looking yarn from Universal Yarn called Bamboo Bloom Handpaints! It was the first time I had seen this beautiful yarn that’s full of texture. It’s what I would call a “roving” yarn which means there are parts of the yarn which are thick while other parts are thin.

Once I started playing around with the yarn, I realized that I should really design something pretty simple because the yarn is going to do all the work for you.  I was right don’t you think?

The parts of the yarn that are thicker seemed to take on a “berry” type look hence the name Winter Berry Delight!  I should really thank Trish for the name as I asked the ELKies (members of the ELK Studio Facebook Group) for suggestions!

Supplies:  

1. Universal Bamboo Bloom Handpaint, #5 Bulky Weight Yarn, 100 grams/154 yards, 48% Rayon from Bamboo, 44% Wool , 8% Acrylic, Colorway:  Fallen Petals, 2 Skeins
2. J Hook/6.0mm
3. Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends.

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
hdc – half-double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st – stitch

Gauge: 8 sts and 8 rows = 3″

Finished Measurements:

Notes:

Ch 2 at the beginning of the pattern does not count as the first hdc.
Ch 3 at the beginning of the pattern counts as the first dc.
Each row increases by one stitch until Row 43 where it will begin to increase by 2 stitches.

Row 1:  Ch 3, 2 hdc in 3^rd ch from the hook, turn. (2 hdc)

Row 2:  Ch 2 (See Pattern Notes), hdc in first st, 2 hdc in last st, turn. (3 hdc)

Row 3:  Ch 2, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next st, hdc in last st, turn. (4 hdc)

Row 4:  Ch 2, hdc in first st, hdc in next st and each rem st across, 2 hdc in last st, turn. (5 hdc)

Row 5:  Ch 3, (See Pattern Notes), dc in first st, dc in next st and each rem st across until last st, dc in top of ch 3. (6 dc)

Row 6:  Ch 3, dc in next st and each rem st across until last st, 2 dc in top of ch 3, turn. (7 dc)

Repeat Row 5-6 through Row 42

Row 43:  Ch 3, 2 dc in first st and each rem st across until last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn. (45 dc)

Row 44:  Ch 3, dc in next st and each rem st across until last st, 2 dc in top of ch 3, turn. (46 dc)

Repeat Rows 43-44 through Row 62.

Edging

Round 1:  Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st across until last st, 3 sc in top of ch 3, sc evenly down the side until the first st in Row 1, 3 sc in first st, sc evenly up the side until first st, 2 sc in first st, sl st to first st.  Fasten off.  Weave in the ends.

Delightfully Southern Shawl

Supplies:
1. Caron Cakes, #4 Worsted Weight, 200 grams/383 yards, 80% acrylic, 20% wool, 2 Cakes/Colorway: Buttercream
2. Hook Size: H/5.0mm
3. Tapestry Needle

Gauge: 13 dc sts and 9 rows = 4″

Finished Measurement: 46” x 14″ (The pattern takes on a crescent shape)

Abbreviations:
bpdc – back post double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
sc – single crochet
st – stitch

Notes:

• Ch 2 is not considered the first st in the row.
• Ch 1 is not considered the first st in the row.
• Ch 4 is considered the first dc and ch 1 in the row.
• Ch 5 is considered the first dc and ch 2 in the row.
• Add one sc stitch in Row 26, preferably in the middle of the row.
• The first Caron Cake was pulled from the center.  When I started the second Caron Cake, it worked out better for me to start from the outer end and work that way than pulling from the center because the yarn “matched” up to that sequence better.  You don’t necessarily have to do that because it may work out nicely for you to pull both cakes from the center.  I just at least wanted to let you know that’s how mine worked out.

Special Stitches:
V-st: (double crochet, ch 1, double crochet) in specified stitch.
