It’s time to kick off Day 1 of the “Make it for Me” projects! You’ve survived the holidays and now It’s Time for You! For the entire month of January, I will bring you FREE patterns from amazing designers in the crochet industry. One of the great parts of “Make it for Me” is the designer will tell you exactly what that project means to him/her and why it is considered perfect for you too! Take a few minutes to check it out and decide if this crochet pattern is the one that you’ll dedicate to make for yourself. If this is your first time here, you can find out the details about how “Make it for Me” works HERE. Be sure to scroll all the way down. I have a giveaway included on this blog post along with the announcement of a local “Make it for Me” event in my home town!
Here’s why I think this is a perfect “Make it for Me” project. It’s a very stylish and warm scarf that is sure to grab the attention of everyone! (But don’t give it away…..) It works up quicker than you think once you get the hang of the stitches. You know how I love texture, and Chestnut Hill certainly gives you plenty of it!

Gauge: Gauge is not a critical for this project.
Finished Size: 65″ in length (prior to sewing the ends together) and 6 1/2″ wide
- Ch 1 at beginning of pattern does not count as single crochet or half double crochet unless otherwise stated.
- Your starting chain can be any number of even stitches
- The yarn is a roving yarn, so there are places in the yarn that can get thicker or thinner. I loved the look of it for my scarf, but wanted to let you know if you’ve never used it.
- Row 1 is consider the wrong side and Row 2 is the right side of the pattern.
- On Row 2 after working the last MC for that row, you will not ch 1 before the hdc.
Mixed Cluster Stitch: YO, insert hook into first st as indicated, yo, pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops, skip next st, [yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop] twice all into same st, yo and pull through all 6 loops on the hook.
Row 1: (Wrong Side) Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch and each rem chain across. (23 sts)
Row 2: (Right Side) Ch 1 (See Pattern Notes), hdc in first st, work MC (See Special Stitches) inserting hook into first and 3rd st, *ch 1, work next MC inserting hook into same st as previous MC; repeat from * ending last repeat in last st, hdc in last st, turn. (23 sts)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st across. (23 sts)
Repeat Rows 2-3 until you have reached your desired length. I completed 160 rows for my scarf.
Fasten off and weave in the ends. You will then join the ends together using the mattress stitch or the whip stitch if you prefer.
For a finished look, you can evenly use sc stitches on both sides of the scarf. *Sl st, ch 1, sc in same space, then evenly crochet sc stitches around, join by sl st to first st. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Repeat from * for the other side of the scarf.

Well I just don’t know yet….We may close the place down if we are having so much fun! If you are interested in coming, please let me know. I would love a “head count”. You can find the address and other information on the Yarnhouse Studio website! I would encourage all of you to form your own “Make it for Me” event at your local yarn store, coffee shop, etc. Let’s just take at least one day out of the month to celebrate US!
