Another fabulous week of “Making it thru Monday! There was so much to see but these two crochet projects were the most viewed!

1. Our first submission is from Debbie and she shows off her wonderful talent with this great top hat! It’s absolutely marvelous!

2. Next is from Cindy and she made this great beanie hat in honor of a friend that is a breast cancer survivor! I’m sure your friend love it Cindy and smiles every time she wears it.

Southern Sweetness – A Free Crochet Hat!

I’m so proud to once again partner with Crochet for Cancer and design this hat in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness this month. Southern Sweetness has great texture which is perfect for the chemo patient needing something to keep them warm in the winter months that are soon approaching. I’m giving you two styles which you can see in the photo. One is with a nice brim and the other is just a simple beanie pattern.

My prayer would be that in honor of receiving this pattern for free that you would make at least one hat and donate it to a local charity or give it to someone you know fighting cancer. Giving back to those in need is one of the best things we can do in life. If you’ve never given to charity, try it out. The feeling will leave you overwhelmed with joy. Pattern Instructions

Supplies:
1. Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn Worsted Weight 100 grams, 170/yd. Approximately 80-100 yds.
2. Hook – I/5.5
3. Tapestry Needle for weaving in the ends

Abbreviations:
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch

Gauge:
12 dc stitches and 6 rows = 4″

Notes: Please remember these notes or your stitch count won’t come out right. If you’ve followed my patterns before, you’ll note that I always have used the ch 1 and sc in the same space on my hats but this one is a little different. Because of the stitching, using a ch1 and sc in same space on round 7-14 didn’t look right and made the join appear bulky. Please remember the chain 1 counts on these rounds only.

Ch2 does not count as first dc in rounds 1-6
Ch 1 does count as first sc in round 7-14
Ch 1 does not count as first sc in rounds 15-18
Ch 1 does not count as first sc in the brim

ch 4, sl st into first ch to make a ring.

Round 1: ch 2, 12 dc in ring, sl st in first dc (12 st)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st, sl st in first dc (24 st)

Round 3: ch 2 and dc in same space, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next st, work 2 dc in next st*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first dc (36 st)

Round 4: ch 2 and dc in same space, dc in next st, work 2 dc in next st, *dc in next 2 st, work 2 dc in next st*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first dc (48 st)

Round 5: ch 2 and dc in same space, dc in next 2 st, work 2 dc in next st, *dc in next 3 st, work 2 dc in next st*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first dc (60 st)

Round 6: ch 2 and dc in same space, dc in next st and around, join by sl st in first dc (60 st)

Round 7: ch 1 and 2 dc in same space, skip next 2 st, *(sc, 2 dc) in next st, skip next 2 st*, join by sl st in first ch 1 (60 st)

Round 8-14: Repeat Round 7 (Continue through round 18 for beanie or go to brim directions for brim hat after Round 14).

Round 15: ch 1 and sc in same space, sc in next st and around, join by sl st to first sc, join by sl st to first sc (60 st)

Round 16:-18: Repeat Round 15, Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Brim:

Note: If you want your brim to take a downward turn, follow the directions below.(Pink Hat) If you want your hat to take a slight upward turn, before you start round 1, turn then complete pattern as instructed. (Blue Hat)

Round 1: ch 1 and hdc in same space, hdc in next st and around, join by sl st to first hdc. (60 st)

Round 2: ch 1 and sc in same space, sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first sc (72 st)

Round 3: ch 1 and sc in same st, sc in next st and around, join by sl st to first sc. (72st)

Round 4: ch 1 and sc in same space, sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 5 st, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first sc (84 st)

Round 5: ch 1 and sc in same space, sc in next 5 st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from *to*, join by sl st in first sc (96 st)

Round 6: ch 1 and sc in same st, sc in next st and around, join by sl st to first sc. (96 st) Finished off. Weave in the ends.

Another incredible month with ELK Studio – From the Heart! It was such a pleasure to sponsor MD Anderson Children’s Hospital. Mistie from American Crochet was the organizer of the event, and I’m very grateful for all her hard work! I say it every month, but I’m truly honored to call you all my crochet friends. You’ve made a difference in my life and more importantly in the lives of the recipients of our projects!

We had a total of 29 hats sent to MD Anderson this month and as you can see, they are absolutely beautiful!

Petals to Picots designed this Quick and Comfy Scarfie! I really love the elegant look of the design, and Kara looks stunning wouldn’t you agree?

I can see this scarf being “the” scarf for Christmas parties and other social events can’t you? Beatrice Ryan Designs stole the show with this one!

MNE Crafts tried out a new yarn and tells you about it! I really love the look and style of this cowl.

Do you have some super bulky yarn in the craft room that you’ve been waiting to use? Well here ya go with a very stylish design by Hopeful Honey!

Craftybegonia says, “You can make this cowl in a jiffy.” We all know there are those last minute gifts we need to make, so this one fits the bill!

Snappy Tots designed this beautiful scarf in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Heidi did a great job and has a wonderful heart!

1. Our first submission is from Melissa of The Cotton Road and she had a custom order to design a cowl using the colors of the Italian flag. When you unbutton the cowl, you can really see the design. I love your stitching Melissa. You should follow her on Facebook because I think she has plans to release this pattern in the future!

2. Next is from Leah of Creative Threads by Leah and it’s a stunner. The pattern has been released on Cre8tion Crochet so you’ll need to follow Leah and get all the juicy details!

Southern Kisses – An Elegant Crochet Shawl!

Southern Kisses is really probably one of my favorite designs so far. It’s certainly the largest project I’ve made in a long time besides blankets I made years ago. The tag line for my blog is Look Elegant, Feel Elegant. I truly believe this wrap will do the trick. The drape on it is stunning and looks good in whatever way you choose to wear it.

I made it using Lion Brand Heartland Yarn. It’s such a soft yarn and with using 6 skeins, only 1 skein had a knot which I thought were pretty good statistics. It makes a great yarn for the shawl because of how it feels against my skin. I can say that it won’t irritate me at all. It’s a little more expensive than say Red Heart Super Saver but for what you pay…..you get a great product. If you want to check out some prices, Craftsy sells Heartland yarn!
