Well here we are……if you are reading this that means you want to convince me why this upcoming planned paid pattern should be given away for free. So….let’s have a little fun and hear what ya have to say!
Here is a sneak peak!
Here are the “rules”:
- You must leave a comment on the blog.
- You must leave a like AND comment on the ELK Studio FB post! It’s the pinned post so should be easy to find!
- The convincing time frame is until October 31st. There must be at least 1,000 likes and comments on the FB post and 1,000 comments on the blog for a total of 3K actions taken. Since there are over 34K ELKies, I think this is a totally doable goal. Should it not be met, no worries, it will come out as a paid pattern shortly thereafter!
Have fun everyone!
Cindy P says

I just love all of your amazing designs, I just wish I had the money to buy your amazing designs, how ever the economy being the way it is right now it is a no go, BUT I do love FREE, anything free is just AWESOME, and if this Gorgeous Project is a Poncho it would be even better, because I need a Poncho pattern, for one of the Ladies in my Church!!!!!!! Again I LOVE ALL OF YOUR AMAZING DESIGNS!!!!!! HAVE A BLESSED DAY!!!!! Cindy Garlotte
Kathy Willin says
Always love the freebies, although I realize a lot of work is involved in creating the pattern. You are the best Kathy!!!

This looks so comfy and warm, just the item I’d love to wear! I agree with others who’ve said that you deserve to be paid/appreciated for your work. We, your followers, do appreciate your work & while eager to take advantage of your kindness, hate to “steal” from you, but would take full advantage of receiving this as a gift out of your generosity and kindness. Thank you for taking pity on us! Lol!
Would make a great holiday accessory — i’m thinking metallic yarn…
Barbara Graf says
Love the sneak peak here’s to hoping it is free.
Pamela Emerson says
It is beautiful!!! I hope it ends up a free pattern because money is tight. Lots of October birthdays including my grandsons on Halloween. If it is paid I will just have to put it on my wish list for now. Either way will be totally okay! Thank you so much!!
Lori Maynard says
This is a very beautiful pattern! I think it would be nice if it were free because then many more people will make it and share their photos with us all
Love this pattern! I would gladly purchase this pattern whether free or not! ❤️
Kathy, this is such a beautiful pattern. It would be a perfect gift and I can say it was a free pattern from you.
I love ❤️ looking at all the patterns you have designed! This one is beautiful. It would be great free for a limited time.

This pattern is beautiful and looks so fun to make; please let us try it for free!!
Nancy Dobler says
What fun this would be to make – and to wear. A lovely pattern that would be especially nice to wear here in Florida. I appreciate the designing process and thank you for sharing your talents.
WOW… Another wonderful project. I have many of yours already and will happily pay for another. Thank you for inspiring me.
Jennifer Nunez says
You deserve to be paid on all your beautiful work and teaching us all….because I’m disabled and on a fixed budget, sometimes I can’t purchase a pattern and other times, it’s months before I have a few dollars left over to buy one. Just know, whatever you decide, I’m grateful either way. Just sharing your “gift” with all of us, is a blessing to me. Another gorgeous pattern. If it’s a paid pattern, it will be on my list of “must haves”…eventually or sooner than later, either way I’ll love it and make it proudly one day!. Thank you so so much for all you do!
Either way your patterns are spectacular. Love you designs & variety. Thanks for your offer. 😊🎈
Judy Mitchel says
Free patterns help spread the word about the skill of pattern makers. I generally don’t purchase from an unknown craftsmen. Once I do I sometimes get hooked 🙂
Love all your patterns! Would love for this to be free, even if for a limited time! Like so many others Social Security doesn’t go very far!
It looks awesome. I LOVE that color

Lauralee Evans says
Beautiful. Would be the perfect gift for my sisters!
M Shelman says
From what I can see this is a nice garment that I would consider making for Christmas presents. I am not in the position at this time to buy though so free would be a Godsend! Can’t wait to hear how this turns out. I love your patterns so much I have a whole file just for them~
Debra Tucker says
I have made seversl of your patterns each getting rave reviews. This one is going to be a winner too! Love the stitch.

Rachel Albring says
This is gorgeous! Quite frankly, I believe that you deserve to be paid for your patterns, because of the time & effort that you obviously put into designing them & writing them up. However, if, out of the kindness of your heart, you do decide to give this one away free, there will be many grateful people, including me!
Marion Gordon says
Beautiful. Time for another before xmas.
Beautiful! I like the open stitches. I agree with so many… free limited time and then paid. You do beautiful work.
This looks beautiful and if you don’t get enough comments I would be happy to pay for the pattern.
I love this poncho pattern. You are the best Kathy.
Andrea Smith says
It’s beautiful, and I certainly won’t be mad if you charge. However I would be THRILLED if it were free 😁
Another lovely design. Free would be great.
I like your pattern and would make it. I’m sure there are many like me , I am on a fixed income and can’t afford to buy any patterns, I’ve seen some that I would love to have but just can’t afford. Some may wonder how I get my yarn , people give me what they don’t want. I would love to have some good quality , beautiful yarn. I have even dreamt that someone gave me expensive yarn. Bad,huh.
Shelia Claring says
Like Vivian said, please make it free, for those of us paying attention, for say a week or two, and they go to paid. The early birds get the worms. (ie: those who pay attention get the free pattern) Besides, my retirement check doesn’t go as far as I’d like. Don’t make me chose whether toI use my money for yarn or patterns.
Melissa Hottenstein says
Its absolutely beautiful. Why Free? Because you are very generous and kind. Either way its beautiful and I am tempted to make one. \o/
Beautiful! I think this is a pattern I want whether it is free or not. 🙂

Free, Yes, 3K, hope so..if not, I’ll pay for it, and put it in my to do pile of patterns..

I love your pattern!! You are so creative and talented. I am more of a collector of patterns than a Crocheter because I just love the designs and dream of crocheting. Ha. Ha!! I can’t wait to add this to my collection.

Oh Kathy, you are the one that got me over my fear of using lighter weight yarns. When you came out with the Southern Dimonds poncho CAL I couldn’t resist trying it because I thought it so beautiful. Now this one also is very beautiful. I’d love to make one even if it’s not a free pattern.
Thank you for all the hard work you do for this group.

My friend is a speech therapist at several local nursing homes. I crochet shawls and ponchos that she uses as bribes to get her patients (who have suffered strokes) to do their speech excercises. This looks like it would be very popular and a lot of lovely Ladies would do the required work to earn this shawl. Thank you for your kindness in all your other free patterns I have already made and given. ❤️
Sharon Ropbinson says
this is a lovely addition to any wardrobe
Your patterns are always beautiful and so well written. When you make patterns free, it is so appreciated. This would make a lovely Christmas present or to wear to holiday parties. It would be wonderful to have this as a free pattern so more crocheters could enjoy making this before the holidays. Since so many people are on tight budgets at this time of year.
Can’t wait to share the love with this beautiful pattern! Free or paid, it’s a keeper!
Love the looks of this new pattern!
Would love to see this pattern as a free pattern! I love your pattern and would love to have this one as a free one. 😊
Tanis Shaw says
I have always admired your work and would love to finally make something for myself!
Sarah Evans says
I think your patterns are amazing! I have made several both paid and free patterns. I know how much work goes into creating them so I don’t mind paying for what I know will be a well written pattern. However, who doesn’t love something for free?
Sue Mosher says
I would love to see this as a free pattern. So many more people will enjoy it. I like it enough to pay for it but not everyone can spare the money.
I love your patterns! I’m hoping to start one of your cals when i’m done with some orders. Thank you for your previous free patterns and I’m looking forward to try this one.
Many gifts would be made from a free pattern.
Why free?! Why not?! Getting into the spirit if Christmas early!!! I have never bought a pattern, money’s are super tight and I rely on free patterns to keep making wonderful items! I appreciate you!!!

Sent a little note to Santa to let you know that it should be a gift from the heart to all of us Elkies as a free pattern. He said that it will be light and comfortable for his southern homes and extra warm for his northern homes. Santa totally agrees that something that is made from the heart should be given to the heart.
Robina Hendrix says
I think it should be free because it’s so close to the giving holiday, besides, we love your patterns.
Well, I think if it’s free, it will get a lot more shares on Facebook, leading to more favourites on ravelry, which is great for you and a bonus for us cash strapped elkies who would love to make this gorgeous pattern 😀
Nancy Foley says

I want one. It should be free so everyone can have something as beautiful as this
Oh my this is gorgeous and looks like jewels….Every woman loves jewel but not every woman can afford them. Stunning!
I r one of my fav designers!
I would rather pay a little bit for a pattern, because I usually can’t afford to pay the price for the yarn that sponsors you. I do feel you have a right to be paid for most of your patterns. And I am on a very fixed income but why make your income so fixed as well?
Dorothy Stritzinger-Palmer says
I would like to make this. Thank you giving us opportunity to get this for free.
Stacia Pinckard says
This looks to be something perfect for holiday get-togethers and it being a CAL would just be icing on the cake. All of your patterns are beautiful and truly appreciated whether paid or free. Sometimes the only thing that holds me back is the expense of the yarn.
Pat Dunnell says
Very pretty — paid or free!
Margaret Moretz says
I would love to have this pattern for free because I am on a fixed income and retired.
Love this paid or free
Kathy McCue says
This looks so pretty!
Denise Stowers-Fultz says
This is super cute!!! We the people who crochet, always need to have our hands moving with hook and yarn to stay in proper health, mentally and physically. When making something to keep the body warm, it adds to the physical health factor. Being one who crochets yourself Kathy, I know that you can understand the importance of this, and seeing how much you love your ELKIES, you want to help with this FREE PATTERN!!!
Looks so lovely!
Robin S. says
Now that looks so cozy and soft!
As people are starting thinking about Christmas presents, they may not be able to pay for the pattern and buy the yarn. Free may be the way to go for now.
Debbie Thurmond says
Please make it free! It is just toooooo delightful not to have one. After all I have spent on yarn lately getting ready for the holidays, my husband has just told me that if I spend any more on my crochet right now that he is liable to have a heart attack. I don’t enjoy wearing black because I have cats and that is just not a good combination. Please make it free so that I can honestly tell him that it did not cost him a thing.
Kathy Lashley says
lol…. Well let’s hope the ELKies pull through with all the comments and such so you won’t have to wear black.
I’m running of binder space and places to hide yarn for all these pretty patterns.

I love that pattern. That’s not a good reason for a free pattern but I run more of them of and hope to have more hours to knit, crochet whatever. That w/b nice for this kind of weather.
Count me doe free 🙂
So beautiful. What a great way to dress up jeans and a T-shirt. On a budget is always helpful.
I had bought some yarn quite sometime ago, because it was on sale, not knowing what I would make with it. This would be the perfect pattern for it!!! Absolutely stunning!!
I would really love to make this item as I make items and give them away particularly to folks in hospitals or nursing homes and this looks like a practical but elegant item to make and share.
I love the color, perfect color for the holidays!

Teena Ro says

If anything this is a must make for my winter 2018 wardribe in South Africa,
