The So Good, You’ll Want to Borrow it Beanie was such a hit with everyone for their fellas, I thought it would be fun to make a matching scarf for the girls. I used the beautiful Lion Brand Mandala yarn for the project. It has long and wonderful color changes that I think you’ll love. You can even scroll down to enter to win one skein for yourself!

Supplies:
- Lion Brand Mandala Yarn, #3 Light Worsted Weight, 100% Acyrlic, 590 yards/150g, Colorway: Genie
- Hook Size: H/5.0mm
- Tapestry Needle for Weaving in the ends.
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together
sp(s) – space(s)
Gauge: 16 sc and 20 rows = 4″
Finished Measurement: 28″ x 7″ (laying flat)
Notes:
- Ch 1 in the first st is not considered the first sc in the pattern.
- When ending Round 2, I suggest that you sl st into the ch-1 sp instead of the first st before you start Round 3. This is because you are ending the round with a ch 1. It will leave a slight space when you sl st straight into the first stitch. I played around and decided to sl st into the ch-1 sp then sl st into the first st to begin Round 3. It closes up that space and looks much better. It’s not necessary to do it this way, but you might want to test it out and see if it works well for you.
- Since I used a self striping yarn, I changed the pattern from the original of the So Good, You’ll borrow it beanie. If you want to use different colors for your scarf instead of a self-striping yarn like I did for the beanie, you will follow the color sequence below:
- Round 1 – Color A
- Round 2 – Color A
- Round 3 – Color A
- Round 4 – Color B
- You will add a Round 5 (Repeat Round 4) – Color A
- Repeat Rounds 2-5
- Otherwise, if you use the Mandala or any other self striping yarn, you can follow the instructions below.
Special Stitch:
Single Crochet Cluster (scc): Insert hook into indicated st, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through one loop, insert hook into next st, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through one loop, YO, pull through last 3 loops on the hook.
Round 1: Ch 230, join by sl st to first ch, Ch 1 (See Pattern Notes), sc in first ch, sc in next ch and each rem ch around, join by sl st to first st. (230 sc)
Round 2: Ch 1, scc (See Special Stitches) in first st, *scc in indicated st around, ch 1, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first ch 1. (115 scc, 115 ch-1 sps)
Round 3: Sl st to first st, ch 1, *sc in first st, sc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, join by sl st to first st. (230 sc)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.
Repeat Rounds 2-4 until you have reached your desired width of the scarf. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.

I have a question about the pattern. Are you supposed to chain 72 or 172? Because my scarf is coming out awfully small with the ch 72. I am using the Mandala yarn and when I lay it out flat, it is only 10 inches or about 20 inches around. It is not looking as long as yours.

Hi Randy,
I made an error. It is supposed to be 230 ch. I updated the pattern.
Thank you,
Kathy
