Dixie Charm Poncho Pattern Instructions

Supplies:
1. Premier Sweet Roll, 140 grams, 245 yards, 100% acrylic, Raspberry Swirl, 4 rolls (If you normally crochet the extended portions of my patterns, you will need 5-6 rolls).
2. Hook – I/5.5mm
3. Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations:
ch(s) – chain(s)
dc – double crochet
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip st
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s)– stitch(es)

Measurement: 52" length (wingspan), 21" height (spine)

Gauge: 12 dc sts and 6 rows = 4"

Pattern Notes:
Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as the first st.
Ch 2 at beginning of round does not count as the first st.
Ch 3 at beginning of round counts as the first dc.
Corner st is the third (central) dc of the 5-dc group made in one st

Special Stitches:
Picot: Ch 3, sl st in first chain.

Round 1: Ch 76, join by sl st to first ch to form ring, ch 2 (See Pattern Notes), dc in first ch, dc in next 17 chs, 5 dc in next ch (corner made), *dc in next 18 chs, 5 dc in next ch, repeat from * two more times, join by sl st to first st. (88 dc, 4 corner sts)

Round 2: Ch 2, dc in first st, *dc in next st and each rem st until corner st, 5 dc in corner st (See Pattern Notes), repeat from * three more times, dc in last 2 sts, join by sl st to first st. (104 dc, 4 corner sts)

Round 3: Ch 2, dc in first st, *dc in next st and each rem st until corner st, 5 dc in corner st, repeat from * three more times, dc in last 4 sts, join by sl st to first st. (120 dc, 4 corner sts)

If you want a larger poncho, continue by following the sequence below, otherwise you will start the edging after Round 21.

Rounds 23-25: Repeat Round 5 (240 dc, 116 ch-2 sps, 4 corner sts at the end of Round 25)

If you want an even larger size, repeat Rounds 16-27 stopping at any repeat of Round 9.

Edging

Optional Top Edging

Join to any st, ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each st around, join by sl st to first st. Fasten Off. Weave in the ends.

Adding Wire to a Project Tutorial

Do you love how the brim of my sunhats look but need a little more help than a picture tutorial? Maybe you’d like to add wire to a basket to help hold the shape! Here is a video tutorial for you which gives detailed instruction on how to use the millinery wire. Once you watch the video, you’ll have a better understanding of what you can do with the wire and how to use the joiner.

Millinery wire is mainly used for people that make hats and the like. That’s how I first discovered it when I started designing the sunhats. The joiner is used to join the ends of the wire together and clasped together with pliers.

Since I had some of the wire around the house, I decided to try it out with a basket and loved it. I hope you will too!

Christmas Present CAL 2016 Project # 3 Week 1

It’s always fun to design a project which seems to have lots of interest. The Sea Glass Basket is a fun project using the Bernat Home Decor Yarn! You love how the bulky yarn just slides so easily through the hook! The textured stitches along with the millinery wire used in the bottom and top of the project will also help hold the project’s shape. I hope you’ll enjoy the pattern!

Supplies:

Bernat Home Decor, 250 grams/317 yards, #5 Bulky weight, 72% Cotton, 28% Nylon, Clay, Cream, and Aqua
J Hook/6.0 mm
Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
3 yards Millinery Wire
2 Joiners

Abbreviations:
bpdc – back post double crochet
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
rem – remaining
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch

Finished Measurement: Basket Circumference: 13″ Height: 6 1/2″

Gauge: Not important for this project.

Notes:
Ch 1 is not considered the first st unless otherwise stated.
Ch 3 is considered the first dc in the project unless otherwise stated.
You can work the bottom of the basket in a continuous round or join by sl st. Whichever way is the easiest for you. I will be writing the instructions for join by sl st.

Pattern Instructions:

Round 1: Using Clay, ch 4, join by sl st to first st to form ring, Ch 1 (See Notes), 8 sc in ring, join by sl st to first st. (8 sc)

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st, join by sl st in first st. (16 sc)

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, join by sl st in first st. (24 sc)

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc next st, repeat from *, join by sl st in first st. (32 sc)

Round 5: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, join by sl st in first st. (40 sc)

Round 6: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, join by sl st in first st. (48 sc)

Round 15: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 12 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, join by sl st in first st. (120 sc)

Round 16: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 14 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, join by sl st in first st. (128 sc)

Round 17: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next 14 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 15 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from *, join by sl st in first st. (136 sc) (Approximately 12″)

Round 18: Add Wire, (See Tutorial), Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st in first st. (136 sc)

Round 19: Ch 1, sc in front loop only in first st, sc in front loop only in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.

Round 20: Ch 3, (See Pattern Notes), dc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to top of ch 3.

Round 21: Ch 1, fpdc around post of first st, bpdc around post of next st, *fpdc around post of next st, bpdc around post of next st, repeat from *, join by sl st to first st.

Round 22: Repeat Round 21. Fasten Off. Weave in the ends.

Round 23: Join Cream, Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next st and each rem st around, join by sl st to first st.

Round 24: Repeat Round 23. Fasten Off. Weave in the ends.
